Samurai 8: Sanda and Ryu + manga review

Español: Link

I miss these two already ;_; at least i know that Sasuke and Naruto will always be together in Kishimoto´s multiverse :3 awwww

The more i drawed Sanda´s hair, the more it remind me of Luke Skywalker rather than Naruto XD

I just finished reading Samurai 8, Masashi Kishimoto´s latest manga which was cancelled after 41 chapters and low sales. I actually liked the concept of the story and the potential it had, but i understand the reasons why it got bad reviews such as the huge amount of lore that the autor added every chapter which make difficult to keep up with, specially if you read it weekly, and how the characters needed more development.

They could have show the lore with a weekly infographic page for readers only (like i have seen in "Death Note" or "Attack on Titan" animes), instead of being explained through Hachimaru and his sensei which expent a lot of pages that could have been used for situations to develop characters.

The point when it got tedious for me was when they started explaining those perk skill levels that looked like your character´s info in the videogame called Skyrim. The company behind the manga definitely wanted it to be the next commercial hit and sell merchandise and videogames out of it. Well, too soon.

Regarding the characters, Hachimaru started as an annoying ungrateful brat (we already have Burrito for that) whose problems got solved in episode 1, became too OP and his motive was not very clear after that, i cant recall if he wanted revenge or prevent the end of the universe. The female main character, Ann, only prays and cooks (this could get you cancelled in the western side of the world XD) which are functions that can be easily replaced by a magical item or a robot, i mean they are in space, the ship itself could be able to cook and do household chores, there was no need for "princeses". The rest of the cast was good, the sensei cat was good, Nanashi was good, Sanda (Kotsuga)´s story was awesome and i would liked to know more about Ryu´s past, and the other characters that show at the end of the story. Some of the villains were kinda generic, unidimensional, forgetable and, sadly, the main antagonists did not had enough time to develop.

Needless to say that the end was severely rushed but it was... ok. Decent. At least nobody got married and had children which is the cheapest cliché ever.

I´ll probably read Kishimoto´s next original work. I feel bad when something that had so much budget and effort invested does not work in the end. But on other side, my aversion for Burrito makes me ignore everything that he creates. :(

Good bye Hachimaru, may the force be with you.
